Taps Combe Camp Hillfort, Somerset

Taps Combe Camp hillfort is a small Iron Age defended settlement, the ramparts of which enclose an area of around 2 acres (a little under one hectare). It is semi-circular in shape – very much like a capital ‘D’ – as is Cleeve Toot, a little further along the ridge. The ramparts apear to have been made of earth with stone walling in places. The Southern side of the camp is defended by a naturally occuring scarp, (think of it as the cross-bar of the ‘D’) and the remainder of the North, East and Western ramparts stand up to 1.5 metres at their highest when measured from the inside.
