Bathampton Camp Hill Fort, Somerset.

Bathampton Camp hillfort is a large univalate enclosure encompassing some 80 acres. It falls into the category of a ‘defendable’ enclosure rather than defensive one, owing to its light fortification. The South-West corner of the camp was once thought to be a part of the Wansdyke, but an excavation in 1904/1905 proved this not to be the case. It has been examined a number of times over the years, and consensus has it that Bathampton was probably a stock enclosure, albeit a huge one.
