Merdon Castle, Hampshire
Merdon Castle hillfort is a univallate Iron Age enclosure of approx. 6.6 acres (2.6 hectares). Between the years 1129 and 1138 a Norman builder chose to construct a castle inside the ramparts of this site, confusing the banks somewhat. It was destroyed in 1156.
